As the last traces of winter fade away, our retirement communities are coming alive with the vibrant energy of spring. At Pacific Carlton, residents are eagerly welcoming the season of renewal, sharing cherished memories while creating new ones together.
The Joy of Spring Through Our Residents’ Eyes
There’s something magical about spring that awakens our senses and reconnects us with fond memories. For many of our residents, this season brings back nostalgic moments that span generations.
“Spring is all about renewal,” shares Raywyn from Sunnyside Manor. “Every day at breakfast, my tablemates and I look out to the courtyard to observe and admire all the changes nature has in store for us. One thing in particular that brings us joy is the camellia tree. We love seeing new buds and flowers bloom.”
This sentiment of renewal is echoed throughout our communities, where residents find joy in the simple pleasures of observing nature’s transformation.
Childhood Adventures Revisited
Many of our residents fondly recall springtime activities from their youth—moments of carefree play and adventure that defined the season.
At Ross Place, residents recently reminisced about flying kites as children during a spring trivia activity. They shared the mixed emotions of excitement and occasional frustration when trying to get their kites airbourne, and the delightful scent of blooming flowers carried by the spring breeze. There was a consensus that today’s generation might benefit from slowing down to enjoy simple pleasures like kite flying.
Margaret from Sunnyside Manor recalls another springtime tradition: “Growing up back East, we loved heading to the swamp to gather pussy willows from the bushes. We’d wear our high boots and venture out to bring home branches, which we’d place in a tall vase and enjoy for weeks.”
For Dianne, spring puddles created the perfect playground: “As kids, on the way home from school, we’d race each other over the puddles to see who could make it across without getting wet. Such fun times!”
And Cecilia remembers: “Once the weather warmed up in spring, I loved playing baseball during recess at school.”
These treasured memories highlight how the season inspired play, exploration, and connection with nature—values that remain important in our White Rock retirement community.
Celebrating Springtime Milestones
Spring is also a time for celebrating milestones and anniversaries. Recently at our Pacific Carlton community, one couple celebrated the 74th anniversary of their first date, which took place in high school. They will mark their 71st wedding anniversary later this year—a remarkable testament to their enduring love that began in springtime.
Creating New Spring Traditions at Pacific Carlton
At Pacific Carlton, we believe it’s never too late to create new spring traditions. Our residents enjoy a variety of seasonal activities, such as taking in the sights and sounds of nature, soaking up the sunshine on leisurely walks, or simply savouring a cup of tea outdoors while enjoying the fresh spring air.
Embracing Seasonal Activities

As the weather warms, our residents enjoy a variety of spring-inspired activities tailored to different interests and abilities. Bird watching becomes a popular pastime, with residents keeping track of returning species on our property. Mealtimes take on a special quality in spring as well, with seasonal menu offerings that celebrate the freshness of the season. These shared dining experiences often spark conversations about cherished family recipes and food traditions, as residents reminisce about spring meals they once prepared or enjoyed with loved ones. These activities ensure that everyone at Pacific Carlton can find meaningful ways to connect with the season.
Celebrating Spring Holidays Together
From Easter gatherings to Mother’s Day celebrations, our community comes together to mark spring’s special occasions. Each holiday brings its own traditions to Pacific Carlton. Residents often share stories of their family Easter traditions, from special recipes to memorable egg hunts from years past. Mother’s Day brings another opportunity for celebration. This special day is a chance for our residents to honour mothers, grandmothers, and mother figures who have given us so much. These seasonal celebrations not only honour important traditions but also strengthen the bonds within our community as residents share their personal customs and create new memories with their Pacific Carlton friends.
Enjoying Nature’s Renewal
As spring unfolds, residents often find themselves drawn to the outdoors, taking leisurely strolls around our beautiful grounds. Many enjoy finding a comfortable bench where they can sit quietly, feeling the gentle warmth of spring sunshine while noticing the first blooms of the season. The natural beauty surrounding Pacific Carlton provides the perfect backdrop for peaceful moments of reflection or pleasant conversations with neighbours who are similarly drawn outside by the changing season. Our accessible pathways and outdoor spaces ensure that residents of all mobility levels can safely venture out to experience spring’s simple pleasures—from the fresh scent in the air to the gradual greening of the landscape—whenever they choose.
