Putting up holiday decorations can be one of the most fun aspects of the holidays, and creating your DIY holiday decorations can be even more fun! At Pacific Carlton, our seniors community in South Surrey, we strive to provide many opportunities for our residents to be creative. This blog will provide ideas for fun DIY holiday decorations that residents in senior communities can make.

Christmas Paper Plate

Paper plates are perfect for creating holiday decorations because they are so versatile. With just some multi-coloured paper plates, glue, ribbons, sparkles, markers, and cotton balls, you can create hundreds of holiday decorations. Below is a Christmas paper plate one of our senior residents made at VRS Sunshine Ridge.

Paper Snowflakes

Another classic holiday decoration is paper snowflakes. You will only need a square piece of paper and scissors:

  1. Fold the paper diagonally in half to make a triangle.
  2. Fold it in half again to make another even smaller triangle.
  3. Overlap the right-hand corner over the triangle to create an arrow shape.
  4. Cut off the pointed ends to create a long, upright triangle.
  5. Cut out any patterns you want into the sides of the triangles.
  6. Unravel everything to reveal your beautiful snowflake!

Creating Custom Ornaments

Painting a custom ornament can be another fun DIY decoration residents can make in senior communities. For this craft, you will only need blank white, clear, or wood ornaments, paint, paint brushes, and glitter if you want to be extra fancy.
